MY VALENTINE

Valent in Eden.

Delight of my eyes

Be well, be wise.

Belle to my ears

Know joy! No tears.

Beauty I touch

Feel love, feel much.

Garden deep, growing smart

Christ in Eden you valenced my heart

Growing deep, garden smart.

Feel love, feel much

Beauty I touch.

Know joy! No tears

Belle to my ears.

Be well, be wise

Delight of my eyes.

Last year - I awoke to a scrummy 5am bacon, eggs & bagels brekky! Then I revved us up back-roads to chew chocolate, sip sparkly and salute the sun rising over a misty Waikato.
This year - Fried eggs and spuds, rhubarb muffins w/jam & cream cheese and masala tea and, after work, we're headed to Papamoa beach for 2 nights  :)

Valence ~ (noun) the capacity of one person or thing to react with or affect another in some special way, as by attraction or the facilitation of a function or activity.
Valent ~ (adjective) having valence.

God Will Strengthen What God Has Made.

Tougher than teak

Why New Zealand Peace Tangi Day?

Today is 'Waitangi Day', also called 'New Zealand Day', when we celebrate the signing of a treaty between a federation of Maori Chiefs and the English Crown at Waitangi in Northland, NZ on February 6th, 1840. Our nations founding document was both a peace and economic treaty but too soon it went awry, abused by deceitful hearts on both sides. The Land Wars of the 1860's/1870's were the result and Maori were pushed off many 000,000's of acres of land, land eventually given to its favoured elites or sold by the Crown to the settlers pushing in. Often from hapless situations in their homelands they bought the dream of farm ownership and prosperity peddled to them on the far side of the world by the scruple-less keen for the commission from the sale of a steamship fare.
As always there was evil on both sides so some stench remains. Land issues have been redressed 'finally' many times but to no avail in some minds. Justice can become an industry certain folk refuse to close down lest they become redundant.
By world standards we dwell in a peaceful land but, that said, some years Waitangi Day protests are violent. So today we celebrate an imperfect peace - another "'peace, peace', when there is no peace". We are thankful, content with our lot and yet restless as we wait for the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ our King, to come reign and so complete the work he calls us to today and tomorrow. Come Lord Jesus! Until then...heart by heart Gods kingdom grows :)

Find the Missing Peace

Meden hurled
Into the World.
Our role
Fill a gaping hole.

Saving the World
Hands on
Following orders
Piece by piece
Crossing borders.

Mystery shows
Peace by peace
Gods picture grows.

Songs of the Weather

So far 2012 is an awesome year! I'm already beginning to see God's brush strokes, beautifully sweeping the hearts of His servants to draw His people to Himself. I see fruit on green trees as God builds up his church and uses them to glorify His name. Here in New Zealand it rained and rained for the first part of the summer. Now the sun has come out and flowers, plants and crops are springing ahead with growth. I see this sometimes happening in our hearts. We feel the pounding of rain, we feel cold and damp and we don't realize that we are soaking up nutrients and learning truth so when the sun shines we can leap ahead in our faith.

When clouds hover overhead and you're enclosed by fog it's hard to see past the here and now. Dreams and hopes are crowded out by the mundane. There's difficulty in seeing outside your own narrow life or in including others in the picture of each day. Small problems rise to choke us and even simple tasks grow overwhelming. But when the clouds are lifted and a heaven of blue sky is exposed our minds open with possibilities and we drink deeply of Light. We see outside of today into yesterday and tomorrow. We see that we're not the only ones around and that our lives are brimming with opportunities and relationships. It's this hope that breeds life and life breeds hope. We find that the path we walk today is made up of hopes and prayers birthed yesterday.

I used to dream of marrying a farmer and hope to be a missionary. Andrew's both. I used to pray my husband and I won't argue. We don't. I prayed he'd be tall with big hands and much faith. Check. I read books about Goerge Mueller, Amy Carmichael and I dreamed of living by faith and watching God provide. Today we're working with Prison Care and waiting and watching as God makes a way.

So keep praying, keep hoping, and keep dreaming. Just beware that the conversations you have with your Mighty God and loving Father may shape the path you walk ahead.

In Peter Reynold's class 'Introduction to Pastoral Counseling', (we are studying as a night class at Grace Theological College) one of the questions in his first handout reads "What are the blockages to your peace and thankfulness?" These blockages can be like the clouds hovering, keeping us from seeing and owning all that is ours in Christ.

I hope that in this New Year we will each partner with Christ in doing a little "Spring cleaning" (no matter the season:) of our hearts to free up an abundance of peace and the joy that is ours in Him.
